Frequent technical questions

Why is SiC so good for kiln furniture?

High thermal conductivity moves heat in and out of the load fast, low expansion plus high strength tolerates rapid cycling, and the carbide doesn’t wet most melts. Together that means faster fires, less cracking and less contamination than oxide alternatives.

When should I choose dense over porous SiC?

Dense (SiSiC, RSiC) is specified where gas-tightness, mechanical loading or wear governs. Porous bonded grades are the workhorse for setters, posts and batts where thermal mass and low cost matter more than peak strength.

Will SiC handle molten aluminium?

Yes — SiC is widely used as immersion heater sheaths, riser tubes and degassing components in aluminium handling. For prolonged contact, check for oxidation protection and free-silicon levels with us before specifying.
